5th Of July: No Surprise!
A Pleasant Surprise!

No Surprise by 5th of July has a refreshingly heavy sound: music to this lover's ears; a collaboration among both seasoned and talented musicians. At the helm is rhythm guitarist Larry Post coupled with the deeply feminine voice of Sabriena Stone. I'm taken far aback when a singer reaches to the soul's depths to conjure images of our times treasured voices. The title track and lead track earn most honorable mention, yet my favorite cuts are deeper ones: the bluesy "Bound To Come": rock-and-roll plus horns, equals a delicious blend of southern rock and jazz (think Ike & Tina), also the more contemporary toe-tapper, "Hot Mama!" was a fave, as well. I most especially loved the darker sound of the profoundly urban "New York By Sunday" (think In Flight: Linda Perry post Non-Blonde or shades of early Johnette Napolitano). Loved it! Listen carefully... Run, don't walk to buy now. You can then say you heard them when...

Journey-Esque??? Dylan-like???

New York based quartet 5th of July with singer Sabriena Stone & guitarist Larry Post recently released their debut album, No Surprise on 1/5 Records. The album features Stone and Post's straightforward rock and roll that shows off their considerable musical range and songwriting talents, evoking a Dylan-like quality on "God Fearing Willie." On songs like the ballad "Tonight," the blues-rock "Bound To Come," and the Journey-esque "No Surprise," Stone continues to show there's more to singing a song than simply hitting the right notes!

"No Surprise" is out now!
Here's what people are saying:
" Each and Every Song on this debut album is solid ...Something for everyone. Most albums have 1 or 2 good songs and then filler for the rest. As you listen, you realise that every song is unique and arranged very well. You can put it on and let it go! For audiophiles, the recording is solid, the soundstage is phenominal. The voice is powerful and the music is catchy and the arrangements have significant depth. Highly recommended. Warning - you will find yourself singing the words the next day, and the day after, and the day after....Gets better and better every listen. " Reviewer: Musique Critique UK

Well, tracking a 12 song album in 4 days is not an easy task. But 5th of July has done it. We had a great, emotional, 4 long days in studio 561 with Producer Extraordinaire, Matt Knobel. (holla out to JoeD) We have been in the studio since Saturday, getting our basic tracks done, with Drummer Ron Thaler and Bassist John Carey. We have already had some guest players ... Ron Taylor on Piano and Bob Wlos on pedal steel (yes ... pedal steel guitar). Get ready because it is AWESOME. Now we get 4 days off in Florida!! woohoo--some time to unwind before we head to Crescent Moon Studios in Miami, where we will finish the album. Look out for it ... it's coming ... and it's gonna be Incredible!!!! more photos.

We miss you all in NY
Much love,
5th of July

The show at Arlene's Grocery Saturday night was incredible. The crowd was fantastic and we were psyched that all our friends and fans came out to support us. We also made a lot of new fans Sat night as Arlene's Grocery on Saturday was pretty packed. We love the LES. People could not stop talking about how good we sounded.....AWESOME. We are going to take a few weeks off to fine tune some new songs and then hit the scene again in late October w/ some new gigs to test out the new material and of course keep playing all your faves.

See you all soon.

Well M.E.A.N.Y. Fest 2004 seemed to have gone on without a hitch-especially for 5th of July. Playing in the Cat Lounge of the Pussycat lounge was an absolute blast. We hope to play there again soon! Audience members from Friday night that were not affiliated with the band seemed to enjoy us, and its always to nice to get great feedback from people. Thanks to all of our "regulars" who never seem to miss a show, and thanks to our friends who came out on the holiest night of the Jewish year to support us. We love you for it.

Hope to see you at Arlene's Grocery on SATURDAY OCTOBER 2nd, at 9 pm for a very special show-we will be saying goodbye to our bassist extraordinaire, Mitch Sobel.... Come on out and party with us. Tell everyone you know!

Well for what we thought was going to be a fairly quiet show, it may have been our best one yet! Thanks to our fans for pouring into the Lit Lounge To show your support once more. In the middle of a week where the city is practically empty, you guys pulled thru and we all LOVE YOU for that. Special thanks to my back-up singers in the house, (ohh, you know who you are) on New York By Sunday and, well, basically all of the other songs too.

Give it up to my surprise guests Ann and Michael Fuchs--for coming into the city just for the show. And of course all my girls, and even all the latecomers, cause, well, at least you made it.

PLEASE Let everyone you know about our show next week at CBGBs--Thursday, Sept 9th at 8!

And in other news, 5th of July has been picked to participate in MEANYFEST (Musicians and emerging artists in new York). We will be playing at 9.30 on Septemeber 24th at the Pussycat Lounge and we NEED YOUR VOTES TO GET TO THE COMPETITION LEVEL, so put in on your calendars now! We love you all and are so appreciative of your support and kind words.

MUCH LOVE,

WoW ... what an awesome show @ The Baggot Inn Friday night ... we all had a great time and really enjoyed hanging out w/ everyone. Thanks to Licorice for doing a double header w/ us and we had our first intermission, which was cool as we all got to refresh our drinks, then we finished our set w/ an awesome version of Little Wing w/ "Dave" from Licorice joining us as we had dueling lead guitars w/ he and Elijah.
We are pumped for our next show at the Lizard Lounge on August 19th @ 7pm . This is a really cool venue just off broadway near Times Square. This is our First Annual Happy Hour Show, so we hope to see everyone there.
Oh, by the way, the latest photos have been uploaded ... check them out here.
peace.

Thanks to everyone who braved the rain and came out to the Arlene's Grocery show. The polace was cool, the vibe was good, and the sound rocked. Some thought it was the best show to date, and some of the credit has to go to Arlene's great sound set up.

We will be at it again this Friday at The Baggot Inn in the West Village @ 82 West 3rd Street.

We hope to see everyone there.

Peace.

Hey friends!
We want to send a big thank you to everyone who came out on Friday to the Baggot Inn.  Thanks to you and your presence, we played our most kickass show to date and the venue is excited to have us back at the end of July!  We opened the set with Hot Mama, and got to play all of our favorites and yours including The Heroine Song, NY by Sunday, Tonight, and 200 Miles - to name a few.  A special thanks to John, my favorite soundman, for hooking us up with awesome sound for the evening, and those of you who have been coming to almost every show—Carole, Groo, Howie, Baker, Jniss, Carly, Jordan, Jayne, JulieL, Bled and the Band Aids (pretty good band name) and Peter and the rest of you—list is too long to name you all.

Make sure to stop by Acme Underground  on Friday June 25th @ 9 pm!  We purposely booked an early show, so that you don’t get stuck there until 2, and you come out and have your first drink of the weekend with your favorite band.

Again, thanks for the support.  Please help us spread the word about 5th of July to everyone you know, and keep checking in with us.  Things are about to get really exciting!
Make sure to check out our photo section for new pictures of the band and our audience at the Baggot Inn—your pretty face may just make it to the website.

As always, if anyone has any inspiring comments or suggestions please email us at info@5thofjuly.com, as your advice and opinions mean everything!

Much Love,
  5th of July

Thanks to everyone who came out to the show Friday night and supported us even though we did not hit the stage until after 1am. That was followed by some technical difficulties w/ our amps, but then at about 1.20am it was time to Rock N Roll. What an awesome set, we played some new songs including "ShadowBox Dreams" and "200 Miles" , and layered in what are now becoming our classics like NY by Sunday and Hot Mamma. We really had a good time and are going to talk w/ Acme about getting back on their schedule as we liked the vibe and the sound of the place. Of course we are going to request a Saturday night show at 10pm. TK, Joe, Todd ... thx.

Our next show is Friday June 11th @ the Baggott Inn in the West Village @ 11pm. We PROMISE we will go on at 11pm sharp. Maybe 11.15pm at the latest.

Check out our music section as we have put up some LIVE recordings from the Acme show including 200 Miles, Hot Mamma, and God Fearing Willy. Keep checking the website as we may add Shadowbox Dreams later in the week.
Of course check out the photos section as the "show shots" from Acme should be up.

Finally, a special thanks again to everyone who stuck w/ us on friday night for the "Late Show w/ 5th of July:" Carole, Carly, Sass, Adrian, Julie W, Julie L, Lauren, Jared, Belle, Greg, Pete, Patty, Giselle, Mustafa, BJ and anyone we may be missing ...

- Thank You for your support!

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported us on Cinco de Mayo @ The Lion's Den. It was an awesome set and we had a great time. Sorry we did not have the CD's, but we will have them at our next show at Acme Underground on Friday May 21st @ 12am (that's 12 midnight and we are the headline act of the night). Be sure to check the photos section after our shows and see what we have captured ... band shots, fan shots, you never know what our photogs will capture. If you haven't already provided us w/ your email address make sure you do so, so that we can keep you informed of upcoming news and events. Again, if you made it to the last show thanks for coming out, and if you didn't be sure to make the Acme Underground Show Friday May 21st.

Thanks,
Sabriena, Larry, Elijah, Mitch, & Ron
